UPCA's "Classic NYC Movies" series has enjoyed strong support from the artists and artisans on the website Etsy.com who donate their movie-inspired creations to our raffle each month. We've received prints and jewelry and coasters and even onsies for babies. All of it gets raffled off at $5 a ticket to be drawn at the end of each show.
There is one item for Sunday's May 3 FREE screening of "On The Town" that has a backstory. A Scottish graphic design shop has not only donated a poster print for the raffle, it has designed an original piece to help market the movie and mini-concert performed by cast members from the Broadway show now playing at the Lyric Theatre downtown.
The design is from The Indoor Type, a design studio and print shop run by graphic designer and illustrator Steven Lochrie. The studio specializes in typographic art prints, reimagined film and gig posters, striking graphic maps, and vibrant illustrative portraits.
The beautiful image has been reproduced on posters and fliers all over Northern Manhattan. You can pick up your own copy on Sunday at the show when we raffle off the original.
The other items we will raffle off include:
Two tickets to "On The Town" at the Lyric Theatre, which just received four Tony nominations including for best musical revival. (Cast members will also perform a mini-concert after the movie.)
